Upcoming Events on the Sierra Vista Trail
February 20, 2016, the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance (snmta) will be performing trail maintenance on the Sierra Vista Trail as part of their monthly trail days and in preparation for the Sierra Vista Trail Runs. Information about the trail alliance and event can be found at snmta.org.
The trail race will take place on March 5, 2016 from 6:30am to 5pm. Runners will be on the trail between the Sierra Norte trailhead and the Vado trailhead. Aid Stations will be set up at the Sierra Norte, Talavera, Pena Blanca and Vado trailheads and at two other remote locations. The staging area and start/finish will be at the Sierra Norte Trailhead off of Dripping Springs Road. There will be an increase in traffic and parked cars along Dripping Springs road and, possibly, a slight increase in traffic at the Talavera trailhead parking. Runners will be crossing Soledad Canyon Road. More information can be found on the following websites:
The race is permitted through a Special Recreation Permit with the Bureau of Land Management. There will be course marking along the trail the week before the event and up to 10 days afterwards.
There are many different opportunities for volunteers and if anyone from the community would like to volunteer, please contact Dan Carter, President of the snmta and race director for the 5th Annual Sierra Vista Trail Runs.
